Saw Dr Gritz for 10 years with 1 1 yr break.
I applaud his approach with giving ample time to every patient. I also appreciated his willingness to do the SSDI forms when I was unable to pay. He is fairly easy to talk to. His office is ostentatious so be prepared for that. It was honestly enjoyable and refreshing to see a psychiatrist who doesn't try to be perfect in that part of his practice.
His staff are pretty helpful but you can't leave a message. He will respond after hours if you are in crisis about a question pertaining to the medication.
My biggest and really only issue I now find damaging is that I was put on heavy duty antipsychotics and one of the impacts was severely impacted ability to think on my own & judge what was going on around me & inside me. It also resulted in fatigue to the point of sleeping multiple days in a row. I was unable to tell anyone this medication is harming me.
He never suggested I see a hospital until 6 years into that medication. Which is in my opinion a huge red flag that cost me dearly. At one point he had me on 3-4 different stimulants at one time to combat the extreme fatigue. I was having to be seen for heart palpitations etc as a result. The antipsychotics also resulted in my gaining 125lbs in less than 5 months. I am now completely disabled and am having to have 20+ pills a day to manage complications from the weight gain associated with the regime I was prescribed. I will be having a wheelchair now & surgery for complications from antipsychotic weight gain within the month.
It devastated my life, my ability to use healthy coping strategies & my self esteem & my ability to work
, date, have a family etc.
I was never once told in advance antipsychotics are 1. Addictive 2. Cause extreme weight gain 3. Cause extreme impulsive & compulsive behaviors that are extremely high risk (shopping, eating, gambling, others..).
Lastly, the practice does not believe in structural discociative issues. They believe dissociation (proven to be real) to be a psychosis. This old school psychiatric mentality has damaged my life in ways I cannot put into words further. I came to them in good faith.
For this reason I do not recommend this practice at all.

I have been seeing Christine Wysong for probably a decade now and I adore her as my provider. I struggle with depression, anxiety, and ADHD and have been medicated for these issues. Christine always really listens to what I have to say and adjusts treatment accordingly. If I need changes or have concerns about medication/dosage or anything there is no issue bringing it up. She’s thoughtful and warm which makes treatment so much easier for me. Many providers can make you feel ignored or dismissed and that you’re being condescended to. I have never once felt that way with Christine.
I will say I did once, years ago, have a very negative encounter with one of the receptionists. I had run out of medication and was going through withdrawals and she was extremely rude when I was in a very sensitive state. I think receptionists in a psychiatry office should be more empathetic and thoughtful. However, I have not had any issues since then (maybe she was just having a bad day) and would still highly recommend Christine regardless.

I’m a therapist in private practice and have been collaborating with Dr. Gritz’s practice for many years. What I really appreciate about their practice is how they call and keep me updated as to changes with their treatment recommendations for our mutual clients. A good portion of my therapy clients see a psychiatrist and no other psychiatric practice goes above and beyond like Dr. Gritz and his staff. His nurse practitioners are top-notch and I trust them implicitly with any clients I send their way. Christine and I still share a handful of clients we collaborate about regularly, and I know if a crisis came up with one of my clients I could easily reach her. I also have clients that have seen Alexis, SimonPeter, and Dr. Gritz himself. In all, as a therapist that specializes in trauma and anxiety, I feel relief knowing I have a solid psychiatric practice to refer to that is trauma-informed, personable, and professional. That combination is rare, honestly. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Dr. Gritz and his team, especially to those that have had negative experiences with other psychiatrists or are new to taking psych meds.

After 10 years of searching (and failing) to find a doctor who could actually provide effective treatment, I finally found Dr. Gritz. Not only is he a remarkable doctor, but he is warm, kind, and always happy to hear what I have to say. Most psychiatrists shut down their patients when they try to elaborate and push them out the door as quickly as possible. Not Dr. Gritz. He really listens and never responds with impatience.
Ethel at the front office is so friendly and witty and empathetic- she never fails to make me smile and always calls to check in before running my payment.
On occasions when I needed an appointment but Dr. Gritz was unavailable, I have seen Dr. Simon Peter, who is also wonderful. If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would!!

I have been going Dr. Gritz for at least the past 5 years and have never had a bad experience. In fact, the doctor and the nurse practitioners, Alexis Williams and Christine Wysong (the two I've had the pleasure of meeting) go above and beyond the call of duty each and every time. The front office staff is also great and very helpful everytime I have called. In the last 5 years, I have had to call a handful of times for many reasons (changing my appointment day or time, pharmacy being out of meds, getting meds refilled, etc.) and each and every time the staff at this psychiatrist's office has done exactly what they said they would do, typically within hours of my call. I have never had this type of excellent experience at any other doctor's office. Never has anyone been rude, acted like they were in a hurry to get to the next patient, and all the staff has always treated me with kindness and respect. I highly recommend Dr. Barry Gritz and his nurse practitioners if you are in need of the services of a psychiatrist. This is the office and the staff that other doctor's office should use as an example showing the correct way to treat patients.

Dr. Gritz is an amazing doctor. He speaks to you genuinely and gets to know you to best help put you on a path to success with whatever challenge you’re being treated for. You’re more than a patient number on a clipboard here. The office staff is amazing as well and always a pleasure to deal with.

Love the team at Barry Gritz, MD - Been with them going on 4-5 years now and they're amazing. Glad i had found them through my google searches when looking for a doctor closer to me. Been working with Alexis since my first appointment and she's amazing. Very accommodating and knowledgeable. She really knows her stuff. They have transitioned to using telecommunication for appointments since Covid started and it's actually great. I love the convenience of being able to fit my appointment in around my other meetings instead of having to take time off work to go to the Dr. office etc etc. Mind you, for your first appointment you may still be required to do a face-to-face consultation but Covid really changed a lot of the procedures so be sure to ask. If you need a Dr. specializing in counseling and ADD/ADHD treatment therapy these guys are the one's you gotta see. You won't regret it

I called first thing this morning to schedule my first appointment. I’ve been trying to find a good psych for a while and Dr. Gritz came highly recommended. The woman, Mary, at the front desk was extremely helpful over the phone. She explained there is a long for the doctor but his nurse practitioner are excellent. She held a spot for me till I could call back with payment information. Overall, this office was extremely helpful and pleasant to speak to. I see complaints of appointments taking too long, but Mary warned me of that over the phone. But a wait is expected when the staff is that good. Thank you doctor gritz and staff. Look forward to my appointment Tuesday !
